Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah’s Visit to Offinso North District Assembly: Enhancing Development and Oversight

 

Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, conducted an official visit to the Offinso North District Assembly. The visit focused on engaging with local leaders and inspecting ongoing development projects to ensure their successful implementation.

 

During his visit, Hon. Assafuah commended the district assembly and its partners for their dedication and hard work. He highlighted the importance of visible outcomes from these projects, emphasizing that successful initiatives are a testament to the administration’s commitment to regional development.

 

The Deputy Minister underscored the critical role of technical skills in achieving development goals. He encouraged continued investment in expertise and resources to enhance project effectiveness. In this context, he announced the forthcoming launch of the District Resilience Improvement Program (DRIP), which aims to further strengthen local infrastructure and support development efforts.

 

Hon. Assafuah also addressed current challenges, including the need for improved accommodation solutions for workers outside the district. He highlighted the importance of engaging local engineers and community workers to ensure the success and sustainability of development projects.

 

The visit reinforced the Deputy Minister’s commitment to overseeing and supporting local development, ensuring that projects are well-managed and deliver tangible benefits to the Offinso North community.

Transforming Communities: The GrEEn Project's Impact in Offinso North District

Akumadan recently celebrated the completion of the third cycle of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project, highlighting significant local development and economic progress.

 

Supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the GrEEn Project has delivered critical infrastructure improvements, including the construction of 400 meters of storm drains and the repair of a borehole at Darso in the first cycle. The latest cycle focused on enhancing market infrastructure, paving a 5442m² yam market at Akumadan, funded with GH₡339,631.00 from the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly.

 

The project’s Cash-for-Work (CfW) program has provided employment to 101 locals, with additional training in life skills such as soap making, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship through SoS Children’s Villages.

 

The event also honored the late Mrs. Emelia Botchway and recognized the essential contributions of the EU, UNCDF, and various government agencies. As new infrastructure projects were officially handed over, the importance of ongoing maintenance and stakeholder support was emphasized to ensure the project's long-term impact on climate resilience and economic development.

 

This event marked a significant milestone in community development and showcased the GrEEn Project's role in fostering sustainable progress.

GrEEn Project Enhances Local Development in Sekyere Kumawu

The 3rd Cycle of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project marked a significant milestone with the completion and hand-over of several key infrastructure projects in Sekyere Kumawu District. This initiative, funded by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), focuses on building climate-resilient infrastructure and promoting local economic development.

 

Key achievements include the construction of a 1200mm diameter pipe culvert storm drain at Esereso to Kumawu, part of a broader effort to improve local water management and support sustainable development. Additionally, local community members have benefited from the Cash for Work (CfW) component of the project, receiving training in employability life skills such as soap making and entrepreneurship through the SoS Children’s Villages.

 

A total of 117 beneficiaries, including 110 women, have completed the Employability Life Skills Programme, which aims to enhance their economic opportunities and resilience.

 

The Ministry expresses deep gratitude to the EU, UNCDF, and local stakeholders for their support. Looking ahead, there is a call for continued investment to sustain and expand these vital projects, ensuring that communities affected by climate change and economic challenges continue to thrive.
